The only Island in Lakshadweep which is having three large Ship Wrecks, believed that of SS Hoechst and other ships. Minicoy is the southernmost Island at Lakshadweep and is 398 Km away from Cochin. The Island is the second largest island in its size. In 1885 the construction of the Lighthouse is initiated due to this ship wrecks. Now the attraction is the that the wrecks are under water museums where you can witness variety of fish species and the size of the fishes are larger than the normal fish due to the consumption of ferrous (Iron particles) from the wreck. The dive sites like, Ragganmathi, Mulimatti, Rabberufarai during the month of September to OCtober and during January and February school of Jacks, Sharks, Bull Rays, Red Snapper, Black Snappaer, Turtles, Barracuda and Sweet Lips are in abundant at Bose Point, Murambu, Boduhavaligang and you could also find Hump Back Parrot Fish and Giant Sweet Lips here. The Specialty of the Minicoy Island is that it is set apart form other Islands as the language, culture and traditions are different from other islands. The Village system at this Island is called 'Avah' each Avah is a cluster of Houses which is headed by an elderly man called Bodukakka. The village has a village house which is beautifully decorated.
